Pair of House Fires Overnight in Huntington
HUNTINGTON, W.Va. (WSAZ) -- Huntington firefighters were on the scene of a pair of house fires overnight in downtown.
The first call came in just after midnight of a fire at a home on the corner of West 8th Street and Jackson Ave. Firefighters on scene tell WSAZ.com a small fire under the house was responsible for smoke billowing out of the home. No one was home when the fire started.
Just as crews were clearing that scene, another fire was reported on the 600-block of 4th St. just after 2 a.m.
Firefighters were able to get control of that fire quickly, and deputy chief Scott Earl tells WSAZ.com only about 20 percent of the two-story home was damaged, mostly from smoke and water. Firefighters were waiting until daylight to look through the home for any other damage.
Earl said the fire started on the first floor and quickly spread to the second. Neighbors told firefighters they heard a noise, looked outside and saw the fire.
A home next door suffered heat damage to its North side.
Firefighters had made no judgment on potential arson in either fire.

2012 Legislative Wrap-up
The phrase we hear from the legislature every even numbered year of “it’s an election year, so don’t expect much” certainly held true this year. It was not a session which provided many gains for the PFFWV, however we didn’t regress either.
